The ECO Foundation is an IRS 501(c)3 California non-profit organization founded on the principle of equity that all students should have the opportunity to experience environmental and outdoor education regardless of financial circumstances.
Who We Are
The Every Child Outdoors Foundation reduces financial barriers to outdoor education.
The Every Child Outdoors Foundation sees a world where every child has access to nature and feels inspired to become a life-long steward of our environment.
Amity’s interest in nature developed while loading brush with her tree-trimmer father. This interest grew while studying vernacular architecture in the Himalayas, monitoring the urban watershed in San Jose, California, and leading inquiry-based science programs for students, teachers and families. Now working for the California Regional Environmental Education Community (CREEC) Network, she is still fascinated by how environment affects culture and how people affect the environment.
Santa Cruz Outdoor Science School
Hello, my name is Michael Lane (or Creature at the outdoor school) and I have been loving outdoor education for 9 years now. I grew up in Bountiful Utah and loved playing in the snow in the winter and Mt. Biking or hiking around southern Utah and the mountains during the summer.
I have relocated to Santa Cruz and now enjoy hiking, biking and surfing all year long, plus a little snow when I can. I value my job so much, the energy, creativity and smiles keep my coming back for more year after year. It has been so rewarding to see past campers that I taught in 5th and 6th grade, coming back as cabin leaders and getting to hear about how special their experience was. I look forward to every day, week and year I can spend working where I do.
Our work is funded by donations from individuals and businesses, as well as grants. Major institutional support for our work has come from the following sources:
• Since 2016, the ECO Foundation hosts an annual fundraising event, the Every Child Outdoors Festival to raise money for environmental education grants.
